We pray: “Your Kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven,” but how does the Kingdom advance?
One of the ways Jesus described the Kingdom of God is found in Luke 13:21:
“It is like something as small as yeast that a woman kneads into a large amount of dough. It works unseen until it permeates the entire batch and rises high.” (TPT)
There are two vital points in this verse:
- Firstly, the yeast permeates all the dough and affects it. It makes it rise. It makes it more than it was before.
- Secondly, the woman kneads the yeast in. It takes a person to apply the yeast to the dough.
“Go….and declare to the people the Kingdom of God is among you.”
That is our calling as far as advancing the Kingdom is concerned. As we go, we mix. As we go, we add. As the yeast of the Kingdom mixes with the dough of all we encounter, it causes that dough to rise towards God, to be more than it was before.
So how is the Kingdom released? Jesus said:
“The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:20-21)
The key to the “Kingdom being among you” is going out believing the Kingdom is in you. We carry the Kingdom. The Kingdom is where the King is. We are carriers of the Holy Spirit, God Himself!
As we go, He impacts our surroundings, but He doesn’t just work independent of us. My experience is that He works along with the measure of our faith. As we believe we carry the Kingdom, the Kingdom is released. This is true, in my experience, whether we are moving in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, or if we are just hanging out with people. The Kingdom of God is a positive force. It permeates, like the yeast into the dough.
The other day I went to the beach and met with friends who don’t know Jesus. I was in a season where I was very aware that wherever I went, I carried the Kingdom of God. Although I was aware of this, on this particular day I was feeling miserable. I can’t remember why, but I wasn’t having a good day. I sat with my friends for a chat and a coffee. After about an hour, I headed off to a meeting I was due to attend still feeling sorry for myself.
Later on that afternoon, another friend that was at the beach earlier rang me and said of my friends, “They can’t get away from how full of joy you always are.” I laughed for the first time that day. In the midst of a most miserable mood they’d seen joy on me. Immediately, the Lord showed me that they were experiencing His Kingdom.
I realised that although the Kingdom is clearly released when the sick are healed or words of life are shared, it can also be released in our everyday situations according to our faith.
What would happen if the Kingdom always permeated the atmosphere, not just when you are on a mission, but at every business meeting you attend, or family meal time, or when you’re just hanging out with friends, or doing the shopping, or on the creative process in your job or hobby? Imagine the impact. The Kingdom works unseen, until over time it permeates the entire atmosphere and lifts it heavenward.
Sometimes, I’m not in faith that I am a carrier of the Presence of God. On those days nothing much appears to happen. However, on the days when I am walking in faith, well, He often surprises me in the ways His Kingdom advances.
I pray for grace on you today, to believe. Believe that you are a carrier of His presence, a carrier of His Kingdom.
When you believe, your faith provides a landing strip for the Holy Spirit to alight on. Great ‘God’ adventures await us as we step out in faith, because you and I are called to be carriers of His Kingdom.
I would love to hear your testimonies of the Kingdom of God impacting people through you. Please leave a comment below.
