Have you ever got stuck in a situation or faced a problem and didn’t know how to fix it? Today’s post considers precisely that issue.
The other day I was walking my two Collies in the forest. It’s a beautiful place to get into the presence of God and lost with your own thoughts.
However, I have a pet hate. I hate having to wash and dry the dogs when I get home. This time of year it’s a daily problem as most of the paths are sticky with thick mud, so I try and avoid the busiest, hoping that they will be slightly dryer. This day though I had no choice. The smaller parking spots were full so I headed to the busiest car park of them all, the one with the muddiest paths. As I got out the car I said to God, rather absentmindedly and with more frustration than was necessary, “There must be a way of keeping the dogs clean!” I wasn’t really asking for an answer. I was just sharing my frustration as I have a habit of doing. Suddenly a God-thought crossed my mind “Why don’t you just walk directly through the forest where there is no mud?”
As I type this now the idea sounds stupidly obvious. The forest is well managed and clear of heavy undergrowth, but above all because hardly anyone walks there it’s mud free. But it had never occurred to me just as it had never occurred to the thousands of other people who every week slip and slide over the muddy paths. So off I set, hardly Bear Grylls but doing my best to utilise my new found solution.
Okay, I may not have found a solution to one of the greatest problems facing humanity but it does prove a point. In the Letter of James he writes:
‘If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him’ (James 1 v 5).
I had need of wisdom to solve a problem. I asked God and he answered.
The Father loves to partner with us in every area of our lives. He is the creator and He loves to create solutions for the problems we face. He wants to give us strategies to succeed in family, work, ministry, and in our dreams. Often the solution is surprisingly obvious, but that‘s often the beauty of wisdom. How often do we see a new product or a new idea and think ‘Now why didn’t I think of that?’
Often, our most significant breakthroughs are just a prayer away, yet we seldom seek God’s advice. What would happen in your life if you began to seek God for wisdom, for solutions, strategies and ideas?
‘It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.’ (Proverbs 25:2)
The Father has endless solutions and infinite wisdom hidden just out of sight. Why? Because He wants to partner with His children. He is simply waiting for you to ask for wisdom.
Where do you need God’s wisdom? Make a choice to start asking today and then listen. Your answer is on its way.
