I went to a party last night with Ross. I started off preparing for it during the week as I thought about it positively, thinking to myself about how much I was going to enjoy it! This isn’t my ‘norm’ as parties don’t tend to be a naturally comfortable place for me.
The party was being thrown by some special friends who have a passion to see Christians reveal the presence and love of God through the Arts. There was a fantastic artist called ‘JennyRebecca’ who, along with her band, are currently doing their first tour and it was the content of her song ‘Good Things’ that has prompted this blog today; ‘Good things are coming to you my love, good things are coming’.
It struck me then, as it does now, that we often don’t believe this. We don’t let ourselves believe it, maybe because of past experiences, or maybe because it seems ‘greedy’ and slightly ‘not British’ to say such positive things!? I don’t know but what I do know is whatever our reservations, it is true. True for you, me, your neighbours, your work colleagues, for us all.
Christmas can be a difficult time for many with pressure increasing on families and relationships as we seek to make the perfect day for each other or live up to family expectations and traditions. Personally, I had a tragedy happen in my life 18 years ago which took place over Christmas time so I struggle at this time of year too. Yet the truth is, Jesus, part of the trinity, came to us as a baby all that time ago so we could know His heart of love for us and be established in the best relationship we could ever have where He never puts a single expectation on us!
Oh yes, He has shown us the ‘best’ ways to live but He invites us to move into them, as if we are being asked to dance by someone special at a party.
“Will you join me…?”
Jesus is a Good Thing. He has good things for you. He brought good ‘things’ when He came as a baby and He has a ‘Mary Poppins’ bag of goodness that has no bottom!
John 10 v 10 says He has come to give you abundant life…..and it is actually true.
Whatever our experience of Christmas’s past and present; Good things are coming your way; get excited, be expectant and then be satisfied because He is a good, present and loving God and He never lets us down.
